49ers Waive Trey Sermon Wednesday
2 years agoThe San Francisco 49ers waived running back Trey Sermon on Wednesday. There had been mixed reports on Sermon during training camp and the preseason, with some suggesting that he was on the roster bubble. The 23-year-old third-round pick in 2021 will surely be scooped up off waivers by a running back-needy team, and it could give Sermon more fantasy appeal in deeper leagues, depending on his landing spot. With JaMycal Hasty also waived on Tuesday, San Francisco will enter the 2022 regular season with a RB depth chart of Elijah Mitchell, Jeff Wilson Jr. and rookies Tyrion Davis-Price and Jordan Mason. Sermon had 41 carries for 167 yards and one touchdown in nine regular season games in his rookie campaign last year.
