A.J. Allmendinger On Standby For Austin Dillon
4 years agoRichard Childress Racing's Austin Dillon is set to start 22nd on Wednesday night in the Blue Emu 500 at Martinsville Speedway, but there's a chance that Dillon won't be piloting the No. 3 car in this one. Dillon and his wife are expecting their first child soon, and the team has tapped A.J. Allmendinger to possibly jump into the car should Dillon's wife go into labor on Wednesday. There could be some interesting DFS upside if Allmendinger winds up in the car, as his seven top-10 finishes at this track are the most he's recorded at any track in the Cup Series. Dillon, meanwhile, has just two top-10s in 12 Martinsville races, though both were top-five finishes. There's a lot of uncertainty heading into Wednesday, but you could make a decent case to roster this team regardless of who the driver is.
