4 years agoOakland Athletics starting pitcher A.J. Puk tossed four shutout innings with three strikeouts in a Cactus League start against the Rangers on Friday. Puk is battling for the fifth rotation slot in Oakland vacated by Mike Fiers (back); Daulton Jefferies and Cole Irvin are also in the running for the job. Puk is ranked as the number-two prospect in the A's system, but has dealt with a myriad of injuries including Tommy John surgery that limited Puk to just 36 2/3 innings pitched at all levels since 2017. Puk's prospect pedigree makes him an intriguing fantasy asset if he wins the job, but only those in the deepest leagues will need to use a late-round pick on the left-hander.--Mike Schwarzenbach - RotoBaller
