Aaron Civale Will Shift To Relief Role For Wild Card Series
4 years agoCleveland Indians right-handed pitcher Aaron Civale will be bounced from the club’s starting rotation for the Wild Card Series, which is set to begin Tuesday. His omission indicates that the trio of Shane Bieber, Carlos Carrasco, and Zach Plesac will be tabbed for the three-game set, with pitching coach Carl Willis saying that Civale will be available out of the bullpen. Having posted a 3.99 ERA in 11 starts, the 72 hits that Civale allowed were an American League-high entering play Friday. He’ll make his final regular-season start Saturday in a favorable matchup against a paltry Pirates offense, making the case to rejoin the rotation for a possible ALDS start should the club advance.
