Adalberto Mondesi Leads MLB In Steals, Slumping At Dish
4 years agoKansas City Royals shortstop Adalberto Mondesi has so far done in 2020 exactly what owners hoped for at the start of the year -- for him to steal bases. His six steals led the Majors entering play Thursday, but so did his four caught stealings. For those that ponied up for Mondesi, there was also the expectation that he would hit with some regularity after having compiled 39 extra-base hits last year, including an MLB-high 10 triples. But thus far, Mondesi has produced very little offense (.227/.253/.307), getting himself dropped to the bottom of the order. His minuscule 2.2% BB% ranks among the lowest marks in the Majors, as well as his .253 xwOBA, which puts him in the bottom sixth percentile for all batters. Moving forward, he remains an excellent source of steals, but he can no longer be viewed as a borderline Top 60-75 player.
