4 years agoBoston Red Sox reliever Adam Ottavino had a strong debut on Wednesday against the Twins in spring training, striking out two in a scoreless inning of relief. Ottavino, who was acquired from the Yankees this offseason, had a disappointing 2020, but it was not as bad as the surface numbers suggest. Even though his ERA was a ghastly 5.89, his strikeout and walk rates actually improved from his elite 2019 season, so the main culprit was a nearly 100-point increase in his opponents' BABIP. If luck returns to Ottavino's side, he will be an All-Star caliber reliever again in 2021, but unless he steals the closer's job from Matt Barnes, he won't have a ton of appeal outside of holds leagues.--Daniel Fox
