4 years agoSt. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher Adam Wainwright appears to be the likely starter for St. Louis in their home opener on April 8, according to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Dispatch-Post. Goold says that the team has not officially told Wainwright yet, but manager Mike Shildt said that it was "a strong possibility" that he will take the mound against the Brewers. Last season, Wainwright posted his best numbers since 2015, finishing with a 3.15 ERA and 1.051 WHIP in 65 2/3 innings. He made two starts against the Brewers last season, allowing five runs while striking out 12 in 13 2/3 innings of work. That included a nine-strikeout performance where he allowed jus two runs in seven innings to earn the win.
