7 years agoSt. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher Adam Wainwright (elbow) tossed four scoreless innings for Triple-A Memphis on Monday in what might be his final rehab outing before rejoining the team. He gave up three hits while walking two and striking out four, throwing 38 of his 61 pitches for strikes. The veteran right-hander is expected to return to St. Louis, where he will be re-examined and possibly activated from the disabled list this weekend when rosters expand. Over his five previous outings with Double-A Springfield and Single-A Palm Beach, Wainwright didn't allow a run in 17 innings, giving up just nine hits and two walks while striking out 18. His performance is very encouraging, but remember that Waino has been out since May 13 and wasn't very effective in his four starts before the injury. There's also a good chance the Red Birds will use him in relief, which would kill any limited fantasy value he might have to close out the season.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
