3 years agoWashington Nationals shortstop Alcides Escobar (neck) is dealing with a stiff neck and was held out of Monday's Grapefruit League game against the St. Louis Cardinals as a result. Luscious Fox drew the start at shortstop, but he's not necessarily guaranteed to make the Opening Day roster. There's a chance the Nats carry an 11th relief pitcher instead of a fourth bench player like Fox. Escobar is considered day-to-day for now, but it's unclear if he'll be ready for Opening Day later this week. The 35-year-old glove-first shortstop made a nice impact for the Nationals late last year, but before joining them, he hadn't played in the majors since 2018 with the Kansas City Royals.
