7 years agoToronto Blue Jays shortstop Aledmys Diaz got off to a hot start in 2018 in place of the injured Troy Tulowitzki, picking up home runs in two of his first five games. Since then, however, it’s been a whole bunch of nothing for the 27-year-old. While this doesn’t mean we expect that to change, Diaz finally picked up another extra-base hit in a 4-0 loss to the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday, finishing 1-for-2 with a double and a walk. It was Diaz’s first extra-base hit since his last home run on April 13, a span of 15 games. Diaz is slashing a pathetic .184/.228/.345 on the year, and Wednesday’s effort likely won’t spur much of a change. For anyone who thought they caught lighting in a bottle early on with Diaz, the dream is long over.--John Smith
