7 years agoToronto Blue Jays shortstop Aledmys Diaz (ankle) began running and doing agility drills over the weekend, and the next step for him is to begin a minor league rehab assignment. It sounds like that will happen by the end of this week, assuming no setbacks. An ankle sprain has kept Diaz on the disabled list since early May. Prior to the injury, Diaz wasn’t very good from a slash-line perspective (.216/.273/.431) but was pretty solid when looking at his counting stats. In 110 plate appearances, Diaz hit six home runs, scored 15 runs, drove in 13 and stole a base. The slash line should eventually improve, too, given his .200 BABIP when his career rate is .287. Expect to see Diaz back in Toronto in early June.--John Smith
