7 years agoAfter suffering a nasty ankle injury on Sunday, the Toronto Blue Jays placed shortstop Aledmys Diaz on the 10-day disabled list with what is being called a left ankle sprain. In his place, Lourdes Gurriel will be the starting shortstop, as communicated by manager John Gibbons. Given Diaz’s underwhelming play thus far, it seems feasible to say Gurriel could run away with the job if he produces. Whether or not he produces is a separate question, though. He’s only slashing .236/.263/.364 across 57 plate appearances but was tearing up Double-A New Hampshire to the tune of a .347/.382/.510 line prior to his call-up. Gurriel is worth a speculative add in deeper leagues if you can afford the roster space, but he isn’t a must-add.--John Smith
