Aledmys Diaz To Injured List, Jack Mayfield Called Up To Start

5 years agoHouston Astros second baseman Aledmys Diaz (hamstring) was placed on the IL on Monday, and infielder Jack Mayfield has been called up to take his place. Mayfield will start at second and bat sixth in Monday's contest versus the Cubs. The news is undoubtedly disappointing to speculative owners who were hoping that top prospects Yordan Alvarez or Kyle Tucker would be called up, but neither is an infielder and Alvarez isn't on the 40-man roster. Savvy players in dynasty or keeper leagues could use this call-up to see if owners of those top prospects are losing faith. Mayfield is interesting, as is anyone in the Astros lineup, but regular second baseman Jose Altuve is expected to be activated this week, so Mayfield can be ignored for fantasy purposes.--Mario Hernandez - RotoBaller
