Alejandro Kirk Earns First Big League Call-Up
4 years agoToronto Blue Jays catcher Alejandro Kirk has been summoned to the Major League roster for the final two-plus weeks of the season. Ranked as the Blue Jays’ No. 6 prospect per MLB Pipeline, Kirk is a 5-foot-8, 265-pound catcher that will likely backup Danny Jansen, but also see at-bats at the designated hitter slot. Still just 21 years old, Kirk walked (56) far more than he struck out (39) last season, in addition to producing an .868 OPS across two levels, topping out at Class A Advanced. Until he sees consistent at-bats, Kirk is likely best utilized as an upside DFS selection. He is not among Friday’s starting lineup against the Mets, but could make his debut later this weekend.
