2 years agoSan Francisco Giants starting pitcher Alex Cobb (neck) could return to the rotation this weekend against the Pittsburgh Pirates. He threw a simulated game on Tuesday against prospects Vaun Brown and Grant McCray, with Brown taking him deep. Cobb was scratched from his June 3 start with what was eventually diagnosed as a neck strain. The 34-year-old veteran right-hander had a 5.73 ERA and a 1.49 WHIP, but he's also sporting a 2.64 FIP with 47 strikeouts and 12 walks in 37 2/3 innings over eight starts before getting injured. He might not need a minor league rehab assignment before returning to the Giants rotation.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
