7 years agoSan Diego Padres outfielder Alex Dickerson (elbow) will undergo Tommy John surgery later this month and miss his second straight season, according to The Athletic's Dennis Lin. Dickerson had not appeared in a game this spring, so this injury does not affect the competition in the outfield to crack the Padres Opening Day lineup. What this does mean, however, is that whoever wins out as a starter will have more job security going forward. Manuel Margot and Wil Myers are already penciled in at center and right, respectively, while Jose Pirela and Hunter Renfroe are still competing for the starting left field job. By the time we see Dickerson again in 2019, he will be 29 and any fantasy value he might have had will have most likely evaporated by then.--Michael Grennell - RotoBaller
