Alex Kirilloff Optioned Over The Weekend
3 years agoMinnesota Twins outfielder/first baseman Alex Kirilloff was optioned to Triple-A St. Paul on Saturday and left-hander Devin Smeltzer was selected from St. Paul in a corresponding move. The Twins also moved first baseman Miguel Sano (knee) to the 60-day injured list. Kirilloff's right wrist is fine, but the 24-year-old former top prospect hasn't been the same at the plate since having season-ending surgery on his wrist last year. Minnesota is hoping regular playing time on the farm will get him right, both mentally and physically. He missed a couple weeks in mid-April and is hitting just .172 with two runs scored and 12 strikeouts over his 10 games played so far this year. With Kirilloff struggling and Sano sidelined, Jose Miranda should continue to serve as the regular first baseman in Minnesota.
