Alex Mack Retires After 13 Seasons
2 years agoSeven-time Pro Bowl center Alex Mack has announced his retirement from the NFL on Thursday after 13 seasons. Mack was the 21st overall pick in 2009 by the Cleveland Browns out of California. He played seven seasons with the Browns and was named to three Pro Bowls before joining the Atlanta Falcons from 2016-20 while being named to three more Pro Bowls. Mack earned his final Pro Bowl nod in 2021 while playing 17 games for the San Francisco 49ers. The 36-year-old had been contemplating retirement ever since last season ended, and his contract restructure with the Niners on Thursday was an indication that he was leaning toward hanging up his cleats. Jake Brendel and Dohnovan West are likely to compete for the starting center job with Mack now out of the picture.
