Alex Smith Looking to Get The Redskins Off To A Fast Start in 2018
6 years agoWashington Redskins quarterback Alex Smith will aim to change the recent fortunes of the team in season openers against the Arizona Cardinals. The Redskins have started each of the last five seasons with losses, having been outscored 135-66 in those games. Smith has been very good in openers, winning seven of 11 games overall, including going 4-1 with the Chiefs when he passed for over 300 yards twice and tossed 12 TDs along with four interceptions. The 34-year-old ranked fourth in fantasy points among quarterbacks in 2017, as he set career highs in passing yards (4,042) and touchdowns (26). While Smith doesn't currently have the weapons he had in KC, he has a good matchup against the Cardinals, who surrendered the 12th most fantasy points to quarterbacks (16.8) per game. He is projected to see a regression in his overall numbers this upcoming season, however, he should be in consideration as a QB2 this week.
