5 years agoBoston Red Sox outfielder Alex Verdugo (back) is progressing quicker than trainers would have expected but is still unlikely to be ready for Opening Day against the Blue Jays, according to Red Sox interim manager Ron Roenicke. Verdugo has completed some running drills but has not started hitting or fielding yet, and it is unknown as to when the 23-year-old will be able to join his teammates for on-field workouts or exhibition games during spring training. The Red Sox will take things slowly so that Verdugo avoids re-aggravating the same injury during the season. Once healthy, Verdugo is expected to be the Red Sox every day right fielder and should be owned in standard fantasy formats after posting 12 home runs, 44 RBI, 43 runs scored, a .294 batting average and .817 OPS with the Dodgers in 2019.--Denis Vondrus - RotoBaller
