4 years agoAlexander Volkanovski walked into UFC 251 for his first title defense against the man he beat for the title, Max Holloway. The first two rounds looked like Holloway was back to his old self, ending each round with huge strikes. UFC Stats nor ESPN recorded Holloway with any knockdowns in the matchup. Statistically, though, through two rounds Volkanovski barely outstruck Holloway, landing 41 significant strikes to Holloway's 40. Volkanovski's landing rate was a bit higher, as he landed 48% to Holloway's 46%. Holloway was at 40% in both rounds. Volkanovski opened things up a bit in the third round, out-landing Holloway by 10 significant strikes and a 17% higher landing rate. Rounds 3 and 4 were more of the same from Volkanovski, as he out-landed Holloway by a combined 24 significant strikes. The three takedowns to none also contributed to Volkanovski getting the nod.--Matt Bricker - RotoBaller
