Amed Rosario Gets Backing As He Remains Sidelined
4 years agoNew York Mets shortstop Amed Rosario will be absent from the starting nine Thursday against Washington for the third consecutive game as he battles the after-effects of a stomach flu. While he has been sidelined, Andes Gimenez has blossomed and made the case to become the team’s everyday shortstop, but manager Luis Rojas reiterated Thursday “he’ll be back in there” when he is healthy. Rosario hasn’t drawn a walk in his first 14 games, slashing .207/.207/.310, having been shuffled across the New York order. Gimenez has emerged as a keeper's league option with New York’s infield picture unclear even once Rosario rejoins the mix. His next opportunity to get back in the lineup will come Friday against Philadelphia, who has not yet announced a starter.
