Andrelton Simmons Designated For Assignment

2 years agoChicago Cubs shortstop Andrelton Simmons (shoulder) was reinstated from the injured list on Saturday and then designated for assignment. Simmons, always a standout with his leather at the 6, was hitting just .173/.244/.187 with no home runs, seven RBI, eight runs scored and four stolen bases in 85 plate appearances over 34 games for the Cubbies before his injury. The 31-year-old had been on the injured list since July 11. If he's not claimed off waivers by another club, Chicago can return him to their organization in the minor leagues. The Cubs will move forward with youngster Nico Hoerner at the position. Even if Simmons latches on with another team and is on the major league roster, he's miles away from fantasy relevance.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
