Andrew Heaney Eyes Continued Success Sunday
4 years agoLos Angeles Angels left-handed pitcher Andrew Heaney has gotten off to a strong start to the 2020 year with a 2.35 ERA across his first three starts. But a deeper Statcast dig indicates that unless he begins limiting hard contact, his ERA might begin to trend more toward the 4.37 career mark that he has established. Batters are hammering the ball at a 47.4% Hard Hit rate, and of the 46 four-seam fastballs that he has thrown (90.6 MPH average velocity), not one has been swung at and missed. Fortunately for the southpaw, he starts Sunday against Texas at Globe Life Field, which has proven to be a pitcher’s paradise in a small sample size. Rangers batters are delivering just a .591 OPS at the park, the second-lowest team mark at home in the Majors.
