Andrew Painter Impressing In Minors
3 years agoPhiladelphia Phillies pitcher Andrew Painter, the team's first-round pick last year, struck out 14 hitters in five scoreless innings for Low-A Clearwater on Saturday and has struck out 30 hitters in 12 scoreless innings in three starts so far this year in the minors. "He's doing pretty good," said manager Joe Girardi. Right-hander Mick Abel, the team's first-rounder in 2020, had nine strikeouts in five scoreless innings for High-A Jersey Shore on Saturday. Painter will likely join Abel at that level soon if he continues to dominate. Painter, who is only 19 years old, is the Phillies No. 3 prospect, per MLB Pipeline. The right-hander repeats his delivery well for his size (6-foot-7) and commands all four of his pitches nicely.
