Andrew Vaughn Won't Start On Opening Day
4 years agoChicago White Sox first base prospect Andrew Vaughn will not be in the Thursday's Opening Day lineup. It comes as a bit of a surprise with Vaughn's service time starting early and outfielder Eloy Jimenez (pectoral) sidelined. Manager Tony La Russa will instead go with utilityman Leury Garcia in left field and backup catcher Zack Collins will be in the designated hitter spot. Vaughn enters this season as one of the top hitting prospects in all of baseball and his role will be even more important this season with the loss of Jimenez. Vaughn was slated to be part of a rotation at first base and designated hitter with Jose Abreu, but closed out camp taking shifts in left field. Managers shouldn't worry about him being on the bench Thursday and he will be back in the lineup Friday. Vaughn offers managers plenty of upside due to his unique ability to get on base and hit for power. Garcia and Collins make for better DFS options at the moment and can be avoided in a tough matchup versus the Angels and Dylan Bundy on Thursday.
