2 years agoThe Los Angeles Angels optioned left-hander Reid Detmers to Triple-A Salt Lake on Wednesday and also placed right-hander Jimmy Herget (shoulder) on the injured list. Detmers, in just his second major league season, threw a no-hitter against the Tampa Bay Rays on May 10, but he just hasn't been any good since then. In his last six starts, Detmers is 0-2 and has allowed 17 earned runs on 25 hits (eight home runs) while walking 13 and striking out 24 in 27 innings. The 22-year-old southpaw should be back up with the Angels at some point this year, but he'll go down to the minors to work on some things first. Detmers' 5.37 FIP, 18.6% strikeout rate and .204 batting average on balls in play suggest it wasn't just bad luck either.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
