7 years agoTampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Anthony Banda (elbow) is headed towards season-ending Tommy John surgery. He was optioned to Triple-A in late May after making three appearances for the Rays this season. He held the Orioles to one run while striking out seven over 6 1/3 innings on May 26. Banda is expected to be out until 2020 while he recovers from surgery. Banda is now the third Rays pitching prospect to have Tommy John surgery. Both Jose De Leon and Brent Honeywell had surgeries in spring training.--Andy Webb - RotoBaller
