4 years agoMiami Marlins relief pitcher Anthony Bass had a terrible outing in Tuesday's game, facing four batters without recording an out. Bass allowed one run on two hits and a walk, but it could have been much, much worse if he hadn't been bailed out by an amazing performance from Richard Bleier. Bass left the bases loaded and Bleier came in to strike out three hitters in a row. Bass had been pitching better since being removed from the closer's role, but underlying metrics showed he was still not doing particularly well. Despite that, manager Don Mattingly has continued to give him significant innings, as this was an eighth inning appearance in a one-run game. Bass and his 6.52 ERA should be working in a low-leverage role until he can get right, but with Mattingly at the helm, we're likely to see him in another eighth inning very soon.--David A Marcillo - RotoBaller
