7 years agoNew York Mets reliever Anthony Swarzak (calf) threw a modified bullpen session on Monday (around 20 pitches) and emerged feeling “really good.” Swarzak has been dealing with a strained left calf, which he injured last Tuesday after running to cover first base. Assuming he continues to progress as he is now, he should be ready to go by Opening Day. While normally Swarzak would only be appealing in holds leagues, the Mets are attempting to take a different bullpen approach this year without a set closer, and will instead play the matchups. We’re not sure how long that will actually work for, but for now it's possible Swarzak picks up a few saves early on.--John Smith
