Aroldis Chapman Collects First Postseason Save This Year

4 years agoNew York Yankees closer Aroldis Chapman picked up a four-out save against the Rays on Thursday, striking out two and allowing one baserunner. Chapman used his slider sparingly on Thursday with his sinker (two pitches) and splitter (one pitch) combining to account for more of his total pitches than his slider (two pitches), but the pitch mix was effective with the Rays failing to put a ball in play. Chapman’s 23 pitches on Thursday make it unlikely that he’ll pitch again on Friday in most situations, but it’s hard to see the Yankees turn to anyone else in a save situation in an elimination game. Fantasy managers should expect Chapman to continue pitching like the elite closer that he is and rely on him in lineups through the rest of the postseason.--Sam Chinitz
