4 years agoNew York Yankees relief pitcher Aroldis Chapman is getting early results from his splitter. Chapman has thrown nine split-fingers this season and has yet to allow a hit with the pitch while striking out five batters with the offering. The veteran southpaw noted that it's not necessarily a new pitch, just one that he wasn't encouraged to utilize during his time in Cincinnati- though he has it working well within his arsenal now. Chapman's rejuvenated putaway pitch, coupled with an increase in his fastball velocity- up nearly two ticks from last season- has him looking better than ever to start the 2021 campaign, despite the lack of save chances. Chapman has yet to allow a run in five innings with a 13:2 strikeout-to-walk ratio.--Tim Capurso
