6 years agoThe Oakland Athletics are in the preliminary stages of a potential contract extension with third baseman Matt Chapman. The sure-handed hot corner infielder has raced out to a terrific start to the 2018 season, as he is hitting .333 with five home runs and 12 RBI. His glove has been even more impressive, as he has made some absolutely incredible plays thus far. A's president Dave Kaval reiterated the team’s commitment to signing its core group of top players long term "so they can be here to open the building in 2023, so fans can buy their jerseys and know that they’re going to be around."--Brendan Kennealy
