Austin Gomber Continues Hot Spring On Saturday
4 years agoColorado Rockies starting pitcher Austin Gomber took a tough luck loss in Saturday's Cactus League game vs. the Chicago Cubs. The 27-year-old LHP allowed a pair of runs on three hits with four strikeouts and no walks over 4 1/3 innings. The centerpiece of the Nolan Arenado trade this offseason is having an excellent camp thus far. He's rocking a 1.59 ERA, 0.88 WHIP, and 12:2 K/BB ratio over 11 1/3 innings. He put up solid numbers during the shortened 2020 campaign with the Cardinals as well with a 1.86 ERA and 1.17 WHIP over 29 innings. Obviously those types of numbers aren't sustainable over a full season, especially with half of Gomber's potential starts coming at Coors Field. The southpaw entered camp in a competition for a rotation spot and he's definitely earned it with pitching so far. He's been pounding the strike zone in Cactus League play and that strategy has paid off. None of the Rockies starting pitchers outside of German Marquez and Kyle Freeland are very interesting for fantasy purposes but Gomber is a name to keep an eye on.
