Austin Gomber Earns First Win Of The Year
4 years agoColorado Rockies left-hander Austin Gomber earned his first win of the season on Wednesday when he allowed two runs on two hits with a pair of walks and six strikeouts over six innings in a 6-3 win over the Astros. He limited the Houston offense to just two hits but one of them was a two-run home run off the bat of Yuli Gurriel in the top of the second inning. Fortunately, he was picked up by the Colorado offense and earned his first win of the season. Gomber only issued two free passes for the second consecutive game as well after walking 11 combined batters in his two starts of the year. The southpaw has now notched three straight quality starts and lowered his ERA to a solid 3.38 with a 1.17 WHIP. He doesn't have much strikeout upside and still has command issues (20:15 K/BB ratio over 21 1/3 innings) but he's looked good in his last three turns. He draws the Giants on the road in his next start and should be an intriguing streaming candidate.
