Austin Hays Fighting For Starting Role
4 years agoBaltimore Orioles outfielder Austin Hays had a special day at the plate in Wednesday's 8-1 win over the Braves, going 2-for-3 with a single, a two-run home run, and a stolen base. The HR was Hays' first of the spring and came in his first game playing in front of his infant son, Levi, who was born this winter. The 25-year-old put forth a decent showing in 2020, slashing .279/.328/.393 with four HR and nine RBI. However, with Anthony Santander and Ryan Mountcastle as the projected starters in right and left field, Hays will have to contend with Cedric Mullins and DJ Stewart for playing time in the outfield and at designated hitter. The O's could have a surprisingly decent lineup this season, so Hays could be a fantasy sleeper if he can get enough playing time.
