Austin Voth Sees Improvement In Spring Debut
4 years agoWashington Nationals starting pitcher Austin Voth, who is fighting for a rotation spot with Joe Ross and Erick Fedde this spring, had a 1-2-3 inning in his debut on Monday. After a disastrous 2020 which saw him throw to a 6.41 FIP in 11 starts, Voth identified a couple issues with his delivery, involving his back leg and non-throwing arm. The brevity of 2020 does not apply in Voth's case, as his limited success in 2019 (3.30 ERA, 4.44 xFIP) was based on even fewer innings. He will have to show more than one strong inning this spring to gain that fifth starter's job and even if he does, Voth will begin the year as more of an NL-only type of player.
