Baker Mayfield Running Out Of Options
3 years agoAppearing on the Rich Eisen Show on Monday, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport offered his take on Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield's trade prospects. While many speculated that a trade could be in the works leading up to or immediately following the draft, Mayfield remains a Cleveland Brown. According to Rapoport, the Carolina Panthers were the only team who seemed to show meaningful interest, but how his $18 million salary would be split became an issue. The Panthers then went on to draft quarterback Matt Corral of Ole Miss, essentially removing themselves from consideration for Mayfield. Rapoport also mentioned he did not sense that Seattle ever had much interest in acquiring the Browns quarterback. Because the Browns are still unclear on whether new presumed starter Deshaun Watson will receive a suspension, Mayfield holds more value to them than he might for other teams. If Watson's situation lingers closer to the start of the season, it is becoming increasingly difficult to see a suitable trade partner for Mayfield before the season starts.
