5 years agoThe Chicago Bears have decided to decline the fifth-year option on quarterback Mitchell Trubisky's contract. The Bears front office has waffled on the topic since the acquisition of veteran quarterback Nick Foles in March, and the move will make Trubisky an unrestricted free agent at season's end. This development can't come as a shock to fantasy owners after Trubisky posted anemic numbers last season. In 15 games, Trubisky tossed only 17 touchdowns and posted a QB rating of less than 70.1 eight times. The maligned passer could set himself up for a huge payday if he bounces back next season, or he could just become another name on a long list of quarterback misfires for the Bears franchise. He will compete with Foles this summer for the starting gig, with Foles expected to have a leg up in that competition. Trubisky was a weak QB2 for fantasy owners in 2019, and he won't have much fantasy value at all if he's holding a clipboard in 2020.--Joey C - RotoBaller
