Ben Gamel To Play A Few More Rehab Games
7 years agoSeattle Mariners outfielder Ben Gamel (oblique) will play a few more games in Triple-A, per MLB.com. Gamel is rehabbing an oblique injury and initial reports indicated Gamel would be back in the lineup by this past weekend. The Mariners and Gamel want some certainty that the injury is behind him, and he will get a few more at-bats in the minors. Gamel is hitting .267 through 15 at-bats at Triple-A and must be chomping at the bit to get back after playing in a career-high 134 games in 2017. Gamel slashed a pedestrian .275/.322/.413 but smacked 43 extra-base hits and drove in 59 runs. Gamel was a streaky hitter without a lot of power potential, and those dynamics should not change much this season. For now, he may be another week away from returning full time to the big league club.
