Benny Snell Jr. Entrenched As No. 2 RB
2 years agoPittsburgh Steelers running back Benny Snell Jr. is currently entrenched as the team's No. 2 RB behind bell-cow back Najee Harris. Harris touched the ball 381 times in his rookie season, which means that the only way Snell will contribute significantly in 2022 is if Harris gets injured. There is a perception that he's been a bust so far in his career, but in 10 career games in which he either started or finished with at least 12 carries, he's averaged 16 carries for 65 yards per game (4.05 yards per carry). The 24-year-old worked on his speed this offseason and also slimmed down. Head coach Mike Tomlin hinted that Snell and Anthony McFarland could face competition in training camp from a veteran free-agent back if they bring one in. Snell is strictly a deep-league handcuff for those that roster Harris.
