7 years agoBoston Red Sox catcher Blake Swihart is following a plan that manager Alex Cora and the staff has prepared to make him more versatile and improve the chances of Swihart getting more playing time. However, now might be the perfect opportunity for the Red Sox to trade Swihart, according to Evan Drellich of NBC Sports Boston. Swihart's development at catcher might be stunted by a lack of an opportunity in Boston, forcing him to gain eligibility at other positions. Other organizations likely still see value in Swihart as a catcher who can hit well. The current regime in Boston has demonstrated they are not shy about trading away their young talent. It could be a possibility. Of course, there is also a trend of teams that carry two good catchers to alleviate some of the stresses that catching has on each one.
