3 years agoToronto Blue Jays manager Charlie Montoyo confirmed on Thursday that starting pitcher Jose Berrios will be the team's Opening Day starter on Friday, April 8, against the Texas Rangers at home. Berrios made a career-high 32 starts last year with the Minnesota Twins and Blue Jays, going a combined 12-9 with a 3.52 ERA, 1.06 WHIP, a career-high 26.8% strikeout rate and a career-low 4.5% walk rate in 192 innings pitched. The right-hander is as reliable as they come, tossing 647 2/3 innings since 2018, which ranks fifth in all of baseball. Berrios is in a much tougher division in the American League East, but he also has a better offense behind him, and he should be a consistent source of innings and strikeouts.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
