Blue Jays Not Talking Josh Donaldson Extension Yet
7 years agoThe 2017-2018 MLB offseason has been a slow grind in terms of free agent signings, and many believe that is in-part due to the monster free agent class that will hit the market next year. Toronto Blue Jays third basemen Josh Donaldson is one of those players, and as of now, he seems primed to hit free agency. According to Donaldson, the team has yet to engage on extension discussions – but they plan to, or so Jays’ general manager Ross Atkins says. It’s going to take quite the number to keep Donaldson from becoming a free agent, something that sounds unlikely based on Ross’ comment of “good business to walk away and not exceed your value” when talking about the team’s approach to free agency. There was never any reason to doubt Donaldson would have a huge 2018, but being in a contract year at age-32 certainly adds more fuel to the fire.
