Brad Hand a Possible Trade Option for Red Sox
6 years agoThe Boston Red Sox are interested in upgrading their bullpen and San Diego Padres closer Brad Hand is reportedly a target for the team. The hard-throwing lefty has fantastic numbers on the season with 21 saves, a 2.43 ERA, and a 0.97 WHIP through 37 innings. He is also signed through 2020, with a team option for 2021. All of these things mean that it would take a king's ransom for the Red Sox, or any team for that matter, to acquire Hand. There are reports that the Padres would want a player like Rafael Devers in return, which is a steep price to pay for a Red Sox team that has already traded away a ton of young talent in previous seasons. A move for a reliever will definitely be the Red Sox priority with Carson Smith sidelined for the remainder of the season, but the Padres may price the Red Sox out of the equation. Furthermore, a trade to the Red Sox would crush Hand's fantasy value in leagues that do not count holds, as Craig Kimbrel is locked into the closer role.
