Brandon Aiyuk A Post-Hype Sleeper?
3 years agoDavid Lombardi of The Athletic offered his take on San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk's volatile 2021 season. "Aiyuk started off camp hot but suffered a hamstring injury. Threw off rhythm work with the offense. It takes consistency to click in the precise world of the NFL. After a half season of consistent work, it finally started clicking again for Aiyuk," said Lombardi. One of the most hyped players in fantasy drafts last season as the 22nd wide receiver off the board on average, Aiyuk completely disappeared over the first half of the year with many suspecting him to be in head coach Kyle Shanahan's doghouse. According to PFF, Aiyuk was last among qualified receivers in yards per route run over Weeks 1-7 at 0.63, but this improved to 2.11 from Week 8 onward, which was ninth-best over that period. The 24-year-old Aiyuk is now being drafted with an ADP fluctuating around 95 as the WR40, and he could be a sneaky post-hype candidate for a third-year breakout.
