Brandon Nimmo Possibly Leading Off For Mets In 2021
4 years agoNew York Mets outfielder Brandon Nimmo is batting leadoff and playing left field on Thursday in Grapefruit League action against the Astros. Prior to the game, Mets manager Luis Rojas stated that he was not sure if Thursday's lineup would be his Opening Day lineup, but he did acknowledge that Nimmo and shortstop Francisco Lindor would likely be the Mets' 1-2 hitters. This news certainly bodes well for the possibility of Nimmo batting leadoff all season for a much improved, potent Mets lineup. Nimmo followed up a poor 2019 campaign, the result of a neck injury, with a solid 2020 performance. In 225 plate appearances, Nimmo posted a .280/.404/.484 slash line with eight home runs and 18 RBI. If Nimmo opens 2021 as the Mets starting centerfielder batting leadoff, he will have a tremendous opportunity to post high run totals in a loaded lineup, given his excellent on-base skillset. This will, in turn, be a huge boost to the potential RBI totals of Lindor and Pete Alonso who would be hitting directly behind him.
