Brandon Workman Takes Loss In Phillies Debut
5 years agoPhiladelphia Phillies relief pitcher Brandon Workman allowed one run in 1 1/3 innings pitched and took the loss in his first game since being traded from Boston. Workman pitched worse than his numbers as he allowed four hits, a walk, and allowed two inherited runners to score to cost the Phillies the lead. The good news for Workman is it looked like manager Joe Girardi plans on using Workman in the ninth inning as former closer Hector Neris worked the eighth, and allowed three runs of his own to score. For now it looks like Workman is the top option for saves in Philadelphia and should be owned in fantasy leagues.

Brandon Workman Joins Rangers
3 years agoThe Texas Rangers signed right-handed free-agent pitcher Brandon Workman to a minor league deal on Friday. Workman pitched for both the Boston Red Sox and Chicago Cubs last year, posting a 5.46 ERA, 2.04 WHIP, 25 strikeouts and 21 walks in 28 innings over 29 relief appearances. If the 33-year-old does win a spot in Texas' Opening Day bullpen, he'll be a low-leverage arm and won't be valuable in any fantasy leagues. Workman has a career 4.02 ERA and 1.39 WHIP with 343 strikeouts and 157 walks in 329 innings over 238 appearances (18 starts) in seven major league seasons with the Red Sox, Philadelphia Phillies and Cubs.
