Braxton Berrios Likely To Reach Free Agency
3 years agoNew York Jets impending free-agent wide receiver Braxton Berrios is likely to make it to the open market in March. The 26-year-old is a fan favorite and had four touchdowns in the final three games, but the Jets must decide if he's a full-time receiver or more of a gadget player/return specialist. Berrios averaged 5.4 catches and 50.4 yards per game in the five games in which he played at least 50% of the offensive snaps. There is speculation that he's asking for a deal in the $9 million per-year range, but it would be a surprise if the Jets go that high. New York paid their third and fourth receivers -- Jamison Crowder and Keelan Cole -- $5.5 million apiece. Berrios mainly saw extra playing time down the stretch due to injuries to Corey Davis and Elijah Moore, so if the Jets are completely healthy, he'd be unlikely to be featured so prominently in New York's passing attack.
