Brett Baty To Have Surgery On Torn UCL In Thumb
2 years agoNew York Mets rookie third baseman Brett Baty (thumb) is dealing with a UCL tear in his right thumb and will undergo surgery on Thursday that will likely end most, if not all, of the rest of his 2022 season. It's a tough break for the Mets and the 22-year-old after he was recently called up to the big leagues for the first time. He struggled at the plate in his first 11 games, going 7-for-38 (.184) with two home runs, five RBI, four runs scored and eight strikeouts. Baty was the team's No. 2 prospect this year, per MLB Pipeline, and he has a bright future ahead of him in Queens. Eduardo Escobar should see the majority of playing time at the hot corner for the Mets with Baty out of the picture, at least until Luis Guillorme returns from a left groin strain.
